Dewalt launches cordless rotary hammer built to perform

The DCH275P2 cordless rotary hammer includes an integrated dust extraction system.

DEWALT launched the DCH275P2 cordless rotary hammer that includes an Integrated Dust Extraction System. It is built to live up to DEWALT’s Perform & Protect system and its commitment to providing safer site working through – The Science of Safety.

Key Features of the DCH275P2

  • Includes D25303DH Integrated Dust Extraction System
  • Rotation stop mode for light chiselling in plaster, tiles and render and impact stop mode for rotary only drilling in wood and metal
  • Quick release SDS-Plus toolholder and keyless chuck supplied for easy switching between hammer / rotary hammer and rotary only applications

The DEWALT DCH275P2 is ideal for drilling anchors and fixing holes into concrete, brick and masonry from 4mm to 24mm. The brushless motor with high capacity XR 5.0Ah 18V Lithium-ion battery platform allows for extreme runtime and reduced maintenance. The electronic clutch facilitates consistently high torque and improved durability. It is part of the Perform & Protect range of power tools providing best-in-class vibration at 6.6m/s² and minimising user fatigue.

A bright white LED with delay feature improves visibility. It is ideal for drilling anchors and fixing holes into concrete, brick and masonry from 4mm to 24mm. The compact, lightweight and ergonomic design means improved comfort and support during extended operating periods

The DEWALT DCH275P2 comes standard with an integrated D25303DH dust extraction system, 2 x 5.0Ah XR Li-Ion battery packs with state of charge indicator. A multi-voltage XR charger, a belt hook, a multi-position side handle, a quick release SDS-Plus toolholder, a quick release 13mm three jaw chuck and a heavy duty kitbox.

DEWALT’s Perform & Protect line of power tools is designed to provide a high level of one or more of the following: control, dust containment or low vibration, without sacrificing performance. Users will be able to easily distinguish DEWALT power tools in this line by the Perform & Protect label. ‘Many of our products provide the user with a high level of control, dust containment or low vibration and we wanted to make it easy for the user to identify these particular products,’ said Jeff Beck, senior product manager, DEWALT.

DEWALT’s Perform & Protect line of power tools offers a comprehensive line-up of professional construction power tools, attachments and accessories that meet strict criteria in one or more of the following core safety focused areas:

  • DUST – Industry leading dust extraction solutions. Cleaner and safer working environment.
  • VIBRATION – Minimum vibration, maximum productivity. Up to 50%* lower vibration with innovative AVC system.
  • CONTROL – Unique and innovative torque control features such as CTC and UTC system for rotary hammers or E-clutch for drill and grinders. Maximum level of protection.

Dust Containment

Using a dust control system can decrease the potential of users inhaling dust, increase visibility and reduce cleanup and maintenance costs. DEWALT’s Perform & Protect Dust Management products provide solutions for concrete cutting, grinding, drilling and chipping applications. DEWALT solutions for Dust Containment include surface grinding shrouds, tuck pointing/cutting shrouds, corded and cordless SDS drilling extractors, SDS Max/Spline drilling and chipping extractors, pavement breaker dust extractor and a dust extractor vacuum  (DWV012) that meets the EPA Lead Related Renovations, Repair and Painting (RRP) rule for HEPA vacuums (when used with DWV9320 HEPA filter).

Low Vibration

Prolonged exposure to vibration may result in user fatigue, pain, numbness, and increased sensitivity to cold and decreased sensitivity to touch in fingers and hands. DEWALT power tools that meet the Low Vibration criteria must have 15 percent lower vibration than comparable DEWALT power tools. DEWALT’s SHOCKS Active Vibration Control® System on various DEWALT corded and cordless SDS hammers reduces vibration at the handles compared to hammers without such a system.

Torque Control

Tools can bind up in normal drilling or cutting applications, which can damage the tool or cause injury to the user. DEWALT power tools that meet the Torque Control criteria must have a unique method of controlling torque. DEWALT’s 2-Stage Clutch system for rotary hammers and E-Clutch system for drills and grinders provide more control to the user in a bind up situation and can help minimize sudden torque reactions compared to standard clutches.

The system works by designating key performance indicators to each tool in the form of a Perform & Protect shield. The shield denotes a major contribution to safer working either through the technology employed (vibration and control) or the extraction efficiency of the product (dust).

Tools within the Perform & Protect system offer a number of significant advantages for the end user. Industry leading dust extraction solutions ensure that the potential for inhalation of harmful particles is reduced. Tri-axial level of vibration have been reduced by up to 50%*, thereby increasing usage time without sacrificing performance. Control has been enhanced with innovative torque control safety features preventing tool find up that could cause either tool damage or personal injury.

As part of its campaign to drive safer working, the company is also seeking to engage more actively with the wider construction community. It has established a LinkedIn Group to share views and opinions on how site safety can be improved and maintained.

Commenting on Perform & Protect, Mayan Desai, trade marketing manager of Stanley Black & Decker Southern Africa said, ‘The risks and hazards in construction are well documented, a situation that DEWALT is determined to address. We want to put Perform & Protect at the heart of an industry-wide campaign to reduce incidence of injury, promote best practices and contribute to longer-term health of workers without penalising productivity.’

‘Combating conditions such as Hard Arm Vibration, White Finger Syndrome and the future effects of dust inhalation is crucial to the heath of the construction industry. The technological advancements such as those present in the Perform & Protect system, are important but equally important is creating an environment where safety and correct tool usage are paramount,’ he adds.

There is need for education and better practice is beyond doubt. The number and rate of industry on construction sites is significantly less than 20 years ago but the industry is still far riskier than others.

The Perform & Protect system comprises products such as pavement breakers, angle grinders, attachments and the XLR SDS-MSX drill bit range.
